Today, upon picking my four year old up from preschool, he hands me a school bulletin stating that next week is spirit week. It outlined all the days which revolve around a Dr. Suess theme. I read the words aloud and got to wednesday and said “Wednesday is wacky Wednesday where you wear any wacky clothes!” He quickly decided that it was supposed to be wacky Wednesday today. Not next week. I told him that sounds great, but that next Wednesday is also going to be Wednesday. In typical tired four year old fashion, he proceeded to argue with me and whine that he doesn’t want wacky Wednesday to be next week. So in true mom fashion...today is wack Wednesday. The ONLY wacky Wednesday.
As a mom, dad, or really any caregiver of children, you learn to pick your battles. This was simply one battle I was not prepared to fight. Nor have I had enough coffee to endure this fight. Some are worth it, but I’d rather remember the moments of cuteness of him wearing his wackiest attire today rather than arguing that it’s not supposed to happen until next week at school. You know, the chaos of it all. So if there is one thing you can take away from this, it should be to not fight the little battles today. I hope all of you are enjoying your wacky Wednesday!
